Going out during the courtship: (the first part)
To be able to go out was meaning that a young woman had finished his education and that it was officially available on the market of the marriage. The financial or familiar circumstances it could be late or move forward the debut of a girl, although normally it was appearing to her when it was coming to the seventeen or eighteen.
For the occasion, one had to do the young man with a new closet for the period with intention of appearing the possible best thing, before his public. A girl was remaining under the maternal protection in the first years of his social life. It was using the cards of visit of his mother, or those of another feminine relative if his mother was dead. The same person was serving generally like chaperone (carbine), since it was never allowed to girl to go out alone of house, especially if the company was of another sex.
The courtship was advancing for steps, with the first conversation of the couple, the first exit in company one of other (and the carbine, surely they were continued at least by distance which the lovers should like),and finally making to him company continuously when the mutual attraction had been confirmed. But a gentleman had to be careful in the first moments of the courtship.
If they were presenting it to a lady in a party in order to dance, it could not assume that automatically the acquaintance of the lady could be considered in question, if both were coinciding fortuitously with the street. As resigned gentleman who was trying to be, he had to wait to be formally presented again by a common friend of both. Thing that, of course, only could happen if the lady was giving the assent of which he was presented again.
